Celebrating Indo-Canadian Business ties over BBQ
On July 17, over 100 businesspersons, many from the Indo-Canadian business community in Bangalore, gathered at an unlikely venue and time to meet and network. The Indo-Canadian Business Chamber (ICBC) in Bangalore headed by Renato Cudicio – CEO of Arsha Consulting - along with the Consulate General of Canada in Bengaluru organised the “Canadian Stampede BBQ,” a one-of-its-kind networking party with lunch at the Embassy Riding School.
It was a bright day with clear blue skies; the spacious and green location, fun activities such as pony riding and mechanical rodeo, the comforting barbeque smoke rising in the air, great wine and beer, the best of rodeo competitions compilations and good country tunes lofting in the background, made it a memorable Western style garden party.
One of the guests, Mona, from the Chartered Accountant Firm, Corporate Catalyst India, said she loved everything about the event. She summed up the day saying, “Wine, food and great people, what’s not to like?”
Jasdeep Bevli, Country Manager, Magellan Aerospace, was at the event with his family. Having lived in Canada for 9 years, it brought back some fond memories in him. “It was déjà vu Galore,” he said. “We had reminiscences of our Canadian past, the ambience was great, the barbeque smell took us back to Canada.” He also tried his hand at Pétanque, “I won four out of five games,” he added.
Bevli’s wife Manmeet, couldn’t agree more, “Feeling very nostalgic- In Canada, this is how summer is anywhere you venture out, you can smell BBQ smoke. Kids are also having a fantastic time,” she said.
Like the Bevli Family, Canada is home to a large Indian community. India and Canada have shared enduring bilateral ties and Canada’s sizeable Indian Diaspora has meant amicable relations. Trade and investment between the countries have been on the rise.
The ICBC aims to encourage Indo-Canadian business relations. Renato Cudicio, Chairperson, of ICBC, Bangalore and CEO, Arsha Consulting said “We wanted a networking event that was casual, that people could bring their families to.” He added that, “The ICBC is the only exclusive Indo-Canadian bilateral organization – It is a great tool to do business for India. It’s a win-win operation.”
Canadian Stampede BBQ, was intended to be a non-conventional and relaxing business gathering. It was also an occasion to celebrate Canada Day that was on July 1. With horses, barbeque and country tunes, the event brought to the fore the free-spiritedness and camaraderie that Canada is known for. The event made a great get together for families as well. Children particularly enjoyed the pony rides and the rodeo.
Ajay Acharya from Rangsons Electronics said about the event, “It was very well organised, one of the first events where there is networking and fun. Usually they try to have fun, but you are preoccupied with how you are holding your glass! I had a good time and also met a lot of industry friends.”
About ICBC: Established in 1994, the ICBC or the Indo Canadian Business Chamber is the only exclusive bilateral organization dedicated to the promotion of Indo-Canadian economic and bilateral relations.
